Above all else, Kathryn E. Potratz is a straight shooter. And whether her target is the Guardian ad Litem or opposing counsel—her logic and well-considered explanations always hit their mark. A compassionate listener, Kathryn enjoys being an advocate for people going through major life changes—particularly families with children.

Kathryn is a skilled navigator as she helps clients move on with their lives, cut ties with each other, learn to co-parent, and start a new chapter. She considers her clients’ families as a whole—and looks beyond the impact to a single individual to make sure the client emerges with the best possible family relationships.

Kathryn’s clients describe her as professional, responsive, and thorough. And though she represents her clients with great conviction and is the first to stand up to injustice—she also knows when to stand down and choose her battles. A shrewd negotiator, Kathryn knows a win-win solution is the best win of all. With Kathryn as your attorney, you can feel confident that she would never advise you to do something she wouldn’t do herself.

From the inception of her legal career, Kathryn has focused on family law. She enjoys the immediacy of the issues and the impact she can have in helping guide her clients to positive outcomes. In law school at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, she volunteered in legal clinics that advocated for children in court. As an undergraduate at St. Louis University, she did a semester abroad at their campus in Madrid, Spain. She recently published an article in the prestigious Wisconsin Journal of Law, Gender, and Society.

In her spare time, Kathryn enjoys kayaking, rooting for the Milwaukee Brewers, and doting on her field golden retriever.
