Tragic bus accident in Tennessee
In just an awful news story out of Tennessee, a bus carrying 35 children crashed into a tree in Chattanooga, Tenn., resulting in multiple elementary school children getting injured and killed. Over two dozen children were injured. The driver of the school bus, Johnthony Walker, is being charged with five counts of vehicular homicide, reckless endangerment and reckless driving. Additional charges may be pending, according to authorities.
One of the factors in the tragic accident involves speed. The bus was nearly torn in half as result of the accident and wrapped around a tree. There were no obvious roadway conditions that would have contributed to the accident and the police are still investigating whether alcohol was in any way involved. It was reported by some of the children in the bus that moments before the accident, the bus driver blurted out words to the effect of, “I hope you are prepared to die.” Hearing this makes me wonder, whether the accident may have been deliberate and the bus driver perhaps, intended not only to kill himself, but to take as many children as he could harm in the accident. For now, that is purely speculative as authorities continue to investigate this tragic accident.
My heart bleeds for the families of the children and the pain they are going through with the loss of their children and for those injured, what they have to endure. It gives us reason to pause and to remember that every day, our lives can be changed in an instant and to appreciate everything we have around us and those that we love in our families. Kiss your children tonight when putting them to bed and tell them how much you love them.
